Domain history
Château Margillière is located in the heart of the green Provence in the area of the appellation Coteaux Varois en Provence.
Dormant for a few years, the domaine was taken over by my father, Patrick Caternet.
17 years later, with hard work and passion, the 17th century buildings have returned to their original charm and allow us to welcome you in an authentic setting to discover our wines.
Some plots of land were replanted with qualitative grape varieties of the Provence and every year we practice a severe pruning, a disbudding and sometimes a green harvest in order to limit output for a better concentration.
Our 25 acres of vineyards are planted all around the property, in majority Coteaux on clay and limestone soils, where they benefit of our unique terroir marked by a Mediterranean climate and its altitude.
At Château Margillière we practice an organic certified agriculture (Ecocert) since 1999. Since 2013 a meticulous follow-up of the specifications in the wine cellar will make it possible for us to put on the new European logo and to claim it “Organic Wine”.
The wine cellar is actually built on two floors with a surface of 300 m² ; the old concrete tanks were renovated to vinificate our red wines before we put them in the oak barrels. We invested in tanks of stainless steel with small capacities to realize our plot vinifications.
The winery contains about thirty oak barrels of 225 liters that are used only for 3 years to make the most of their aging properties.
Our harvest is performed manually in boxes and we sort our grapes on a sorting belt at the entrance of the cellar to select the best bays in favor of a quality wine.
Today our reward is the recognition by our customers, the finest tables and the prestigious wine competitions of France.
